Abstract

The problem of creative and religious self-determination of A.P. Chekhov, the character of B.K. Zaytsev's art biography Chekhov, is in the focus of the author's attention. The innovation of Zaytsev, the biographer, appears in a special attention to Chekhov's hidden religiosity. In Zaytsev's representation the rationalist Doctor Chekhov struggles with Chekhov-the-artist and Chekhov-the-human-being. The antinomy of author's creative nature is treated in the philosophical context of V. Solovyev about everlasting femininity.
