Abstract

The PURPOSE of the paper is modeling of vermiculite absorption and reflection capacity for the engineering calculation of unit-type releasing furnaces with a mechanical “zero” unit. RESEARCH METHODS. The method of mathematical modeling on the basis of earlier obtained empirical data in the form of the curve of vermiculite dehydration under roasting is used. RESEARCH RESULTS. An analytical model of a single vermiculite grain required for modeling the processes of vermiculite heat transfer and heat absorption is obtained. The weighted average values of vermiculite grain reflection and absorption capacity are estimated for several stages of grain structure formation based on the assumption that lateral surfaces of grains absorb thermal energy flows while end surfaces fully reflect them. CONCLUSION. The outcome of the research is development of the more accurate model of optical properties of a vermiculite grain as a basis for vermiculite flow modeling in the thermal field of the electric unit-type releasing furnace.
