Abstract

The paper reports on the study of how unconventional speech modes can act as a means of conveying socially charged information in English fiction. The results bring out vast potential of interacting author and character voices making up the discourse structure of modern fiction in terms of their participation in meaning construction, and in delivering various types of extralinguistic information, social stereotypes included.
