Abstract

The formation of programming community’s professional ethos and its members’ self-actualization is considered via examples of movements for free software and open source, and of A. Swartz and E. Snowden’s fight for freedom of information. The connection between globalization and development of uniform communication tools, first of all software and its updating and publication forms, is traced. The contradictions between programming ethos values and civilian ones such as private interests’ protection and national security are revealed.
