Abstract

The article deals with identification of some aspects of professional education and career of native-born Germans military engineers (Ch.Th. von Kindermann, I. Krafft, K.L. von Frauendorf, I. von Veimarn, I. von Springer, G. von Strandman), who held a post of the Chief of Siberian lines in the XVIIIth century. Whereby the author attempts to get an overview about the Chiefs’ activities and to precise the significance of their role in the creation of linear forts constructed with using of ideas of European fortification theory. The questions of origin and of personhood of German military engi-neers as the Chiefs of Siberian lines are engaged with particular focus on the activity of General-Lieutenant Ivan von Springer as the most outstanding military leader who held that post.
