Abstract

The article analyses the possibility of prototype theory application for identifying the structure and describing functional mechanisms of grammatical categories in general and the category of middle voice in English in particular. The theory itself (as formulated by E. Rosch) explains mental mechanisms of natural semantic categories' structuring. The article gives a special account of prototype as the organizing centre of grammatical category.
