Abstract

This article deals with the problem of finding the ways to develop the country during the Brezhnev''s epoch. The authors thoroughly and logically consider the dynamics of economic development in the 1960-1980-s, noting the pros and cons of the conducted reforms, their impact on the future economic situation in the USSR. The study is based on the review of the economic debates of the 1960-s and the statistical sources of the 1970-s. The authors conclude that the failure of the economic reforms, conducted during the considered period, was determined, primarily, by the inadequacy of the existing economic theory and the practice of economic development.
