Abstract

В настоящей статье рассматривается внешняя политика Англии в период, предшествовавший началу Первой мировой войны. В качестве объекта исследования выбраны британская дипломатия, геополитическая и военная стратегия во время итало-турецкой войны 19111912 гг. Прослеживается, с одной стороны, влияние Великобритании на развитие военно-политической ситуации в регионе, а с другой учет английскими стратегами изменения расстановки сил в Восточном Средиземноморье после победы Италии над Османской империей на фоне стремительно развивавшегося военно-морского противостояния Великобритании и Германии. Анализируются различия во взглядах на стратегические проблемы внутри британской политической, военной и морской элиты. В качестве источников использованы мемуары, дипломатическая переписка, а также донесения российских военно-морских агентов в иностранных государствах.

This article describes English foreign policy before beginning of World War One. Th e researched subject is the British diplomacy as well as geopolitical and military strategy during the Italo-Turkish war. It is shown on the one hand the Great Britain influence on changing military and political situation in the region and on the other hand attracting of English strategists attention to the balance of powers in the Eastern Mediterranean after the victory of Italy over the Ottoman Empire on the background of developing Anglo-German naval competition. Th e difference of opinions inside British political, military and naval elites is analyzed. Memoirs, diplomatic correspondence as well as Russian naval agents reports in foreign states are used as sources.
