Abstract

The problem of airfoil shape optimization is considered. The original objective function is formulated which takes into account the aerodynamic and mass characteristics of airfoil. The optimization problem is solved by the adjoint gradient method for the incompressible viscous flow. The primal problem is solved by the SIMPLE algorithm using the Star-CD software. Adjoint equations are solved by the SIMPLE adapted algorithm.
