Сверхчувствительный плазмон-поляритонный рефрактометр на основе нерегулярного металл-диэлектрического световода

Abstract

Численно исследован новый тип плазмон-поляритонного рефрактометра на основе изогнутого одномодового световода с металлизированной оболочкой. Установлено, что при определенном сочетании радиуса изгиба световода и толщины металлической пленки реализуется сильная связь между фундаментальной и плазмон-поляритонной модами через посредство оболочечных мод шепчущей галереи. Показано, что данный эффект позволяет проводить измерения показателя преломления (ПП) внешней среды как в спектральном, так и в амплитудном режиме регистрации сигнала с разрешением до 10 -8 ед. ПП.

A novel type of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based refractometer built around a bent single mode optical fiber with metalized cladding is studied numerically. Strong coupling between the fundamental and surface plasmon modes is shown to occur through the meditation of cladding modes at certain combinations of fiber bend radius and metal film thickness. This effect is demonstrated to enable precision refractive index measurement both in spectral and intensity-modulated modes with a resolution down to 10 -8.
