Abstract

In the article we examine the problems of speech variation in its stylistic aspect. Speech variation as a linguistic phenomenon often causes misunderstanding in the process of communication that leads to specifying remark-reactions fixing misunderstanding of the stimulus. In the article there are extracts from the English and American literature in which we thoroughly analyze a specifying component that becomes apparent in the socially-marked language situation showing the divergence of the social status of interlocutors, digression from the roles defined by the speech situation. In the article we examine the collision of social, professional territorial dialects leading to the appearance of the specifying questions as well as a communicative failure in the dialogic discourse.
