Abstract

The article is devoted to the description of the textforming functions of secondary nomination, namely metaphor, metonymy and irony in the publicistic genre. The research shows that indirect names serve an effective means of ascertaining the main text properties, such as coherence, integrity, contextual reference, denotative unity, completion and modality, the most capable being metaphor and irony.
