Abstract

The characteristic of language situation in the Transbaikal region from the diachronic position is given. Based on the analysis of archival materials it is found that during prolonged contact with the Russian population of autochthonous ethnic groups, there is a formation of Buryat Russian bilingualism. Between XVII to XX centuries an active operation in the geographical area described by the Buryat, Evenk language, in the written sphere the old Mongolian script is marked. Based on the analysis of documentary sources that shed light on the language situation in the border region with multi-ethnic XVII to XX centuries it is concluded that «literacy in Russian» in this period is determined by the sign in the socio-cultural interaction of peoples, gradually increasing the level of knowledge of the Russian language. It is revealed that the Russian language is becoming a full-fledged tool of international communication, changing the paradigm of bilingualism from Buryat Russian into Russian-Buryat.
