Abstract

The article presents the analysis of the peculiarities of the Patriotic War of 1812 representation in E. Y. Kurganov’s historical novels. Correlation between documentary and fiction, the complication of communicative relationships between author and reader, the change of standpoints this and many other features of this prose distinguish it from others. It is proved that E. Y. Kurganov’s novels having the image of the war of 1812 as ideological center form an indivisible canvas, multidimensional and panoramic. It is argued that the novel “The Spy of His Majesty, or 1812 (Historical-Police Saga)”, that adequately represents the epoch and up to date is not fully published, is of great interest for readers. The novel’s author by resorting to the original composition structure encourages the readers to make their own idea of the events described. The text of the work is made of the protagonist’s diary and applications the notes of other participants in the events that are stored in the protagonist’s papers and are full of his notes. It is shown that the novel proposes the “polyphonic” version of the events, in which the participants’ opinions correlate or conflict with each other.
