Abstract

MağmU uTUl ad-dīn wa-masmU mahЦTUl al-yaqīn (Summa of the foundations of religion and what has been heard of reliable knowledge) a comprehensive treatise of Mutaman Ibn al-Assāl, a Coptic author of the 13th century, contains a part of the whole treatise on the Unity by Ibn Yumn, a Baghdadi physician, Melkite (May God be pleased with him!), in which he stated that Christian experts did not disaccord in understanding the Unity even though they disaccorded in expressions. The present article is a source study that aims at defining the historical context of the life and activity of the author of that ecumenical treatise. The research is followed by a Russian translation of the synopsis made by Ibn al-Assāl.
