Abstract

The paper is a survey of the latest publications on speech rhythm research on the perceptual level. Speech rhythm is viewed as a complex phenomenon, a form of prominence which is cued by a bunch of various acoustic properties of a speech signal. Acoustic cues are expected to be combined differently to create perceptual prominence patterns in different languages. The article stresses that listeners’ perception of rhythm may be influenced by their native language.
