Abstract

This article is about two basic elements of visual communication in graphic design, namely type and image. Starting from historical evolution of letter-forms, this investigation goes through the examples of its modern spatial representations, which brings out new figurative qualities. This new qualities are described here as a result of planar-dimensional interaction of type and image. Understanding and deliberate usage of these qualities helps graphic designers to create effective visual communication.
