Abstract

In the article we examine and analyze factors of speech situations which affect the forming of the pragmatic structure of the utterance. In the article there are extracts from the English and American literature in which we thoroughly examine specifying remarks-reactions that fix misunderstanding of the stimulus, we consider specifications and specifying questions and mark out a lexeme that provokes difficulties in the process of the interpretation. We point out reasons that cause misunderstanding and, consequently, specifying questions. The reasons of specifying questions are the following: a specific character of interlocutors’ personal relationships; the different models of the interlocutors’ world, the disorientation in the status relationships of the interlocutors, the mixed type, the disparity of cultural contexts of interlocutors, a divergence of interlocutors’ individual thesauruses.
