Abstract

Recently, the knowledge about emotional problems of schizophrenic patients has significantly increased. Previously researchers focused mainly on investigation of clinical symptoms and depression in schizophrenia. Nowadays they become actively involved in investigation of fine emotional disturbances of schizophrenics in experimental conditions. This investigation is aimed at studying the disturbances of emotional sphere in schizophrenic patients, like social anhedonia manifestations and difficulties in perceiving other peoples' emotions, with regard for their clinical symptoms. Material: 60 patients with schizophrenia and 40 mentally healthy controls. Schizophrenic patients happen to experience rather intense negative emotions. They also show insufficient levels of social cognition and perceived emotion, and 'prohibition' to express emotions. With the help of factor analysis, the author draws important conclusions concerning the structure of emotional problems in schizophrenia and significant associations involved.
