The author focuses on the connection of creative works of writers of the second half of the 20th century with ideas of nationalists representing a social and literary trend in the second half of the 19th century. The article takes up the oeuvre of writers portraying a village life, sources of their ideas, connections with the tradition of the Russian classical literature and social idea (A.A. Grigoryev, N.N. Strakhov, F.M. Dostoyevsky) and spiritual aspects of culture. The author ascertains that the nationalists' "organic theory" found its continuation in works by F. Abramov, B. Mozhaev, V. Shukshin, V. Rasputin. V. Belov, E. Nosov and V. Krupin. A particular attention is paid to such categories as a spiritual, social and physical organism, principles of nationalism and national fundamentals of social being. It is the first time the content of the notion of "pochva" (the Russian word for "soil" meaning national and traditional principles) is researched in social and political essays of contemporary writers.
