Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the terminology which is used in the modern theory of memory in the humanities. The author analyzes the basic approaches and achievements in studying of phenomenon of memory in the Western European humanities. The author compares concepts of various kinds of memory, defines their specificity. The author comes to conclusion that in the humanities there is an insufficient theoretical readiness of a phenomenon of collective memory. It leads to polysemantic and ambiguity in terminology and creates serious confusion in a scientific discourse.
