Abstract

The foundation of school as a social institute was accompanied by the process of formation and development of the concept School in Russian linguistic consciousness. The linguistic description of the concept assumes the characteristic of its nominative field, i.e. a system of language means representing the sense of the concept. On the dictionaries data lexical-semantic alternatives of the concept’s name, i.e. the lexeme школа (school) and its synonyms, hyponyms, hyperonyms, periphrases, derivatives and phraseological units are analysed. The component analysis of these units allows defining the semantic structure of the concept in Russian linguistic consciousness on the basis of its central and peripheral cognitive properties.
