The article is devoted to semantic reconstruction of the word-formative family with the Indo-European stem *gran-/*gronon the basis of Russian dialects, which shows the inherent mechanisms of the semantic changes from the most archaic vegetative idea through the intermediate level of "new" separation-and-deviation semantics to prevailing (as far as contemporary language comprehension and usage are concerned) spatial concepts of these stem derivations.
