Abstract

This paper is an attempt at investigating some peculiarities of Old English texts, traditionally related to the genre of homilies. Texts, traditionally related to the genre of homilies, include the following literary monuments of this epoch: the so-called catholic homilies by Aelfric, texts called «Blickling Homilies», and works that belong to Wulfstan's pen. The genre of the above-mentioned literary monuments, as a flowing and moving genre with dim, indistinct borders, represents a type of inducing text, some «omnivorous» and capacious literary form, which can absorb any other texts. The process of genre's adaptation in these texts was expressed in different directions.
