Abstract

The paper analyses the features of the two main models of cultural dynamics: cyclical and linear and their options: inversion, reverse, deviant and wave. It is shown that socio-cultural transformations, on the one hand, are an example of the cyclic model, since they proceed under the general laws and principles regardless of the chronological frame, but on the other hand, they lead a culture towards progress and increasing complexity, which is a sign of the linear approach. The author concludes that of all the existing models of the culture dynamics, the wave model can better reflect the essence of the sociocultural transformations, since it combines the elements of both cyclical and linear models.
