Abstract

The comparison of scientific and political discourses is intended to reveal a cognitive dissonance existing in their content and functions. If a scientific information subject serving as an exponent of entitative qualities and laws addresses his text to the skilled professionals in a definitive domain of science, a political information subject implements in his text the impact function of definitive political quarters on an addressee. As a result, if in a scientific discourse it’s a rational estimation of features and facts that dominates and the author aims for a total objectivity of his thoughts, in a political discourse an addressant consciously distorts the objective truth and in some cases even manipulates the addressee’s consciousness if it answers his political purposes (the article contains corresponding examples). That’s why in a political discourse dominate linguistic signs expressing figured but not logical significations reflecting the political reality.
