The article presents a scientific and skeptical position of M. Shermer concerning biological preconditions of existence of religion and faith in God. It is shown that from an evolutionary point of view, the belief in the supernatural is of great importance for our species in the formal consolidation of the group norms of behavior and natural selection. Correlation between the tendency to self-transcendence and the content of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine which levels are caused genetically is disclosed.
