Abstract

The era of globalization with particular clarity shows the unity of the world of culture, where domestic and foreign folklore and literature are connected by invisible threads. Based on this thesis, the author puts forward the concept that the ideas of the Enlightenment era of the 18th century indirectly influenced the formation of the North Caucasus “educational” tales as well as the intensive development of this folklore sub-genre. As the subject of artistic analysis the author elected specific stories dedicated to the cult of reason which is the highest ontological and anthropological value. Among them there are such tales as “Smart Teacher”, “Smart girl”, “Mind of a five year old boy”, “Wealth, Happiness, Mind” and others. Besides, there are gender marked tales among them which demonstrate the power of the female mind. The children’s tales of scientific and educational content such as “Why salty?”, “Where is the navel of the earth?” play an important role in the Karachay-Balkar folklore. The author concludes that we can draw logically valid historical and cultural parallel between the oriental tales of modern times and the Enlightenment ideology. As a result of the research it can be concluded that the thematic center of Karachay-Balkar social and everyday tales is the cult of reason, the cult of understanding the world. In folk axiology the mind has always been held in high esteem. But enlightenment ideas played a significant role in the intensification of “intelligent plot” in world folklore, including oral folklore of the mountaineers of the North Caucasus.
