Abstract

The article gives a brief overview of the history of the study of such phenomena as the variation of language standards at the lexical level of the language. Examines the works devoted to the study of variation of the lexical level of language units in synchrony. We formulate a hypothesis, suggesting the possibility of applying the method to study the semantic identity in diachrony. On the material of different languages it is confirmed that there is a presence of linguistic relations within the equivalence between the lexis divided by time frames. The different views on the above issue are comprehended critically. The validity of the use of diachronic approach to the lexical varation is proved, further prospects of the research in this sphere are in contemplation.
