Abstract

The article is devoted to the research of argumentative mistakes as means of persuasion on the text material of Barack Obama’s public addresses before foreign audience. The analysis revealed different types of argumentative mistakes according to the developed classification (vagueness of meaning, lack of argumentation, shift of meaning, false authority). The argument is a unity of the defended statement (thesis) and its bases (argumentation). The conclusion is made that the American president appeals to the listeners’ feelings intentionally, which explains the multiple mistakes in argumentation.
