Using the Tambov region as an example we display in this paper some of the problems of the Soviet agriculture during the Great Patriotic War, in particular: the state of cattle-breeding as it has played the key role in supplying the front and light industry with food and resources. We have shown the movement of the collective farm herd, the reasons of mass cattle plague and tightly connected to this difficulties in fulfilling the plans of state mandatory meat and milk supplies, and activities of the regional authorities towards overcoming these agricultural problems.
