Abstract

The article analyzes the influence of works by A. Potebnja and W. von Humboldt on the development of modern linguistic theory of the inner form of the word which became the basis for numerous modern studies in the spheres of semantics dealing with the issues of contextual meaning. The main foundations of the mentioned-above theory are being examined as well as the ways of creating the inner form of the word in a language and the causes of its loss are being explored with the help of practical examples.
