Abstract

The developed protocol of ethyl (4E)and ethyl (4Z)-5-chloropent-4-enoates synthesis is based on the alkylation of malonic ester with individual 1,3-dichloropropene isomers to obtain monosubstituted vinyl chlorides derivatives and its subsequent Krapcho decarbethoxylation. Using N-methylpyrrolidone as a solvent and adding an excess of LiCl (3 eqv.) to reaction mixture gives corresponding stereochemically pure ethyl (4 E )-and ethyl (4 Z )-5-chloropent-4-enoates in 80 and 76 % yields during 1-2 h.
