Abstract

The article is dedicated to the specifics of syllabic and accentual structure of words in modern German. The article deals with specific features at the level of phonemic, syllabic and accentual word. The concept of word stress is considered in two aspects: its phonetic nature and its place in the word. The features, properties, stress and accent types of words are analyzed. There are languages with a fixed stress and free stress from the perspective of place of stress in the word. A comparative analysis of scientific literature on the research problem takes an important place in the work, it helps to identify the distinctive properties of word stress in German. The trends in verbal emphasis and the trends in the nominal stress are examined. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the accumulated conceptual and experimental material, that allows to consider the formal word features in German from the point of view of the language system. The specificity of stress in Germanic languages is revealed.
