Abstract

At present the international film co-production (co-production, film co-production) is part of the global film industry and is a trend in the international cinematography becoming global character. Despite the increasingly prominent role of the international co-production around the world, which active growth started since the beginning of the 1990s, the existing literature pays little attention to this phenomenon and is mainly focused on studying national film industries. The practice of organizing the co-production and its financing mechanisms have not yet been formed in Russia. There is no definition and criteria of the international film co-production and co-production project in any regulations. At the same time, Russia is member of the European Convention on Cinematography as well as member of a number of intergovernmental agreements on film co-production with foreign countries. In this article the definition of the international film co-production is formulated, the legal basis for the realization of co-production is described, preconditions of development of the co-production phenomenon are identified, as well as benefits of co-production are reflected.
