Abstract

The author investigates the reasons that induces the USA-Japan alliance strengthening, emphasizing the dominant position of the USA in ensuring security of the Asian-Pacific region which impels Japan to extend relations and strategic cooperation with the USA. The later for its part is thought to be losing the leadership in the region and is in need of a strong ally. The circumstances revealed explains the necessity of re-orientation in the foreign policy of both partners
