Abstract

National Research Center «Institute of Immunology» FMBA of Russia, 115478, Moscow, Russian Federation The directions of researches that were studied by the academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, by professor Alexander Alexandrovich Yarilin and his contribution to the development of current immunology are analysed. They are the thymus and its role in the immunity; the precursors of T-lymphocytes (PTL) and their role in hemopoiesis and formation of various T-lymphocytes in the thymus and in the peripheral immune system; the importance of cytokines and epithelial cells in processes of functioning of PTL and formation of T-cell immunity, the role in its functions of processes of interaction of peripheral T-lymphocytes and cells of non-lymphoid tissues; generation of various subpopulations of regulatory T-lymphocytes and their significance for diagnostics and therapy of immune-associated diseases; the characteristic of recent thymic emigrants (RTE) and functional activity of thymus, investigation of T-cell receptor excision circles; the functional activity of regulatory T-cells and their analysis at the immune-associated diseases, the role of transcription factor FOXP3; the homeostatic control of T-cells number and aging of T-cell immunity; the apoptosis and maintenance of genetic homeostasis; depletion and restoration of lymphoid tissue after irradiation, the mechanisms of radiation influence to immune reactions; the interphase and reproductive cell death; adoption of fundamental immunology advances to clinical practice and its progress in diagnostics, therapy and prevention of immune-associated diseases.
