Abstract

The article considers the manifestation of esthetic categories "fine", "sublime", "heroic", "tragic", "comic", "ugly" and values in physical culture and sports sphere. For the culturological analysis the texts of L. Tolstoy, A. Kuprin, D. Grigorovich, L. Andreev, A. Green, intrigue of which is connected with history of separate sports, corporal and motor activity and recreational practice have been chosen. The relation of writers to sports as to the difficult and inconsistent phenomenon reflecting not only the humanistic values, but also the negative sides, the tragic moments, allows generalizing the phenomena in the form of esthetic categories: the fine – ugly; the tragic – comic; sublime, heroic – low. Possibility to allocate binary oppositions within one object of research testifies to ambivalence of sports as sociocultural phenomenon.
