Abstract

The phenomenon of destructive attachment in adult romantic relationships is considered in the article. Criteria, defining destructive attachment, are proposed, its typical emotional and behavioural displays are described. Data, indicating the presence of stress, experienced by subjects of the attachment in a romantic relationship, are presented. Strategies used by adult subjects of destructive attachment in romantic relationships for coping with challenges are analyzed. The authors note that, while in a romantic relationship and experiencing destructive attachment to romantic partners, an adult is peculiarly specified by such a form of attachment, which is expressed mainly in negative emotions, feelings for partner, as such emotional displays, as well as alternate reproduction of the following behaviours which is aimed at rapprochement with the partner and at the avoidance of intimacy with the partner. Coping with emotional and behavioural display of destructive attachment in adults is unproductive, ‘’price’’ of coping is extremely high, inability of coping with the severity of such experienced stress, symptoms of which are high anxiety, emotional tension, inability to concentrate, sense of desolation, difficulty of controlling the situation and emotions, confusion, heavy emotions, desire to change own status and relationship, subjective feeling of loneliness, can be partially stated.
