Abstract

The paper discusses the problems of the provision of informational support the numerical modeling of local atmospheric processes with input data about the elevation and other characteristics of the underlying surface of research area, the visual representation and analysis of its results. An approach for the problem solution is proposed, it is based on the use of GIS software and GIS technologies capabilities and on created module for ArcGIS 9. The module automates the extraction process of the underlying surface information from existing digital models, with varying degrees of detail, and the preparation process for an entering into a numerical model. The proposed technology accelerates significantly the interpretation and analysis process of numerical modeling results. The geo-referencing the results of numerical experiments to the topography map allows to carry out more detailed analysis and to clarify the causes for the specific behavior of meteo-fields. An experience of the integration of GIS and mathematical modeling shows perspective of this approach in the tasks of the preparation of the quantitative information for various scientific and practical purposes.
