Abstract

The author considers the ordination rites of women deacons in the ancient Church according the oldest sources: «Apostolic Constitutions», greek, latin and georgian liturgical manuscripts (VIII–XVI). The original greek and latin texts and theirs translations are published as the appendix of this paper. Comparative analysis of sources shows that deaconesses had some functions in the domain of public worship (Liturgy) which were similar to the functions of deacons.
