Abstract

The paper studies fundamental properties and structure-dimensional characteristics of pulp fibers obtained from healthy, dying and dead spruce growing under the same conditions. The research showed that yields of semi-finished products from dead wood are 2% lower. The basic structural and dimensional characteristics of the fibers differ only slightly; increased roughness of pulp fibers from dead wood is explained by slow progress of delignification. When using defective spruce as a raw material for pulp production, cooking modes must be optimized depending on its proportion in the raw material.
