Abstract

The plankton-related method of research is applied to justify the diagnosis of “Drowning”. When comparing the results of plankton-related studies of the water samples and mineralization of dead bodies, on a watercourse seven sectors were distinguished, where a complex of diatoms is formed not only from the phytoplankton of the main river, but flowing into it a tributary as well, and moreover it remains stable in the specific relation up to the confluence of the new tributary. Due to the specific structure of the diatoms found in the internal organs of corpses a hydrological site of the concrete water reservoir can be established where the drowning most likely happened. According to the ratio of representatives of separate genera and morphometric parameters of the diatom shells it is possible to determine a probable time interval of death.
