Abstract

Iron is undoubtedly essential in cell metabolism regulation. Its main function is the transport of oxygen, participation in redox reactions and ensuring the normal functioning of the immune system. The role of iron in reducing immune reactivity connected with the inhibition of RNA-reductase and disturbance of DNA synthesis in lymphocytes has been proved. The significance of iron in the metabolism of physiologically active compounds, the synthesis of antibodies and supporting the normal level of physical and mental activity has been revealed. Iron plays an important role in the processes responsible for the regulation of cell proliferation. Many diseases of the systems organs are connected with the disorders of iron metabolism which is manifested as a syndrome of its excess or deficiency. Such drugs as Ferran, Suiferrovit-A and Ferranimal-75 were used in the research. The research goal was to study the effect of iron-bearing preparations on the metabolism of trace elements in the body of piglets. There were 10 Large White pigs in each trial group. The study of iron metabolism involved the determination of serum iron, total and latent iron binding capacity of serum, transferrin and transferrin saturation coefficient. After administration of Ferran, Ferranimal-75 and Suiferrovit-A the level of serum iron increased by 32.0-40.0%, 2.5-7.5% and 7.5-11.1%, respectively; the amount of transferrin increased by 22.7-36.3%, 15.7-18.8% and 15.4-24.1%, respectively. The total iron binding capacity after administartion of the studied preparations (Ferran, Ferranimal-75 and Suiferrovit-A) increased by 6.5-10.8%, 6.0-9.6% and 6.0-9.4%, respectively; unsaturated iron binding capacity increased by 22.9-29.9%, 16.9-25.0 and 32.5-37.0%, respectively.
