Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the pharmacists opinion about non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) properties and clinical use. Questionnaire of 120 pharmacists in Smolensk was performed. Paracetamol, metamisol and acetylsalicylic acid are the most popular NSAIDs in the Smolensk pharmacies. As the main analgesic, metamisol was referred in 35, 4 % cases, ketoprofen 27.2%, ibuprofen 24.5% and paracetamol 19,3%. In pharmacist's opinion, paracetamol and ibuprofen are most safety and effective antipyretics for children, but 37.5% respondents recommended nimesulide and acetylsalicylic acid as antipyretics for children. Tablets and injection are preferable drug forms for myalgia treatment in opinion 49.1% respondents. Mass-media advertising of NSAIDs exerted influence on recommendations of 28% respondents. So, inadequate education about NSAIDs properties and clinical use was revealed, and additional educational programs among pharmacist are required.
