Abstract

The correlation of the concepts "modality" and "modus" is considered in the article. It is proved that the notion "modus" is wider than the notion "modality" as in its substantial volume it covers logic-syntactic and communicativesyntactic aspects of the sentence. The author shows that modus in Russian is more often implitcit and restored and that the sphere of modus is represented by deictic, or egocentric elements of language. Modality is always explicit and is expressed by grammatical means.
