In the article various theoretical approaches in studying risk behavior are discussed, and also the attempt to consider the phenomenon of risk according to the general theory of the functional systems of academician P. K. Anokhin is made. The theoretical statements proving the possible addictive nature of the activity associated with risk are given. It is supposed that the readiness for the risk represents a particular specific motivational condition which, under the terms of uncertainty, is integrated into a functional system. The risk is considered as the independent component of the system organization of an individual purposeful behavior.
