Abstract

The article touches upon the consequences of the “material turn” for microsociology: the necessity to take into account the agency of numerous technologies that are part of everyday interactiOп. The author’s query is which material objects determine characteristic aspects of interactiOп. Based on frame analysis and actor-network theory the author solves the problem using the notion of competence. Competence is defined as a capacity to focus attention on the main line of everyday activity. The final pattern includes the notion of competence regime and common factors of the competence distribution in a situation between humans and non-humans. In conclusion the author proposes steps for empirical analysis of the material objects’ relevance in interactiOп.
