Abstract

B. Rode's monograph represents an opinion about the USSR collapse and post-1992 Russia's decline in the economic, political, scientific, cultural and moral spheres, as well as view on role of the U.S. in this global tragedy from the Federal Republic of Germany. This book is of great interest because of detailed presentation about the features of the formation and development of the U.S. geopolitical expansion since the nineteenth century until today. In monograph spotlight are the main coil springs, objectives and results as well as the motives and methods of U.S. policy and strategy toward Russia. B. Rode identifies two stages of such policy and strategy aimed to the Eurasia's resource base capture. The first phase was closely associated with the political intrigues around Gorbachev and Yeltsin; it ended the collapse of the USSR. At the second stage, the strategies of "soft coup d'état" were to be implemented not only outside Russia, in the states of the former Soviet Union, but inside Russian Federation, to maintain the situation that existed during the Yeltsin era. However, the German author considers that this policy is a failure even now, and all the signs of this failure are obvious, including the fact that the unipolar world has already turned into a multi-polar.
