Abstract

Grid economic zoning of Russia proposed by different authors, since the 19th century, and various methods of geographical zoning are considered. There are shown the specifics of the historical-geographical approach to the zoning of the territory of the country. A hierarchy of historical and geographical regions, taking into account the differences in taxonomy physico-geographical, cultural and economic zoning, is proposed. A version of the historical-geographical zoning of Russia at the macro level, given the composition and a brief description of selected historical-geographical areas and countries is presented.
